Musical Theatre in Bangalore :: ‘Breaking Up is Hard to Do’

About

Leila Alvares, the Founder-President of the C.A.U.S.E Foundation filled a gaping void in the Bangalore theatre arena when she presented her very first full-fledged musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 1997; chosen because it did not have a single spoken line!

Bangalore knew then that this was a director to be reckoned with. And sure enough year after year she has given Bangalore the best stage musicals ever seen here including Grease, Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, Hello Dolly, Sound of Music, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, All Shook Up, all of which have been raving successes.

This year we intend to stage Breaking Up is Hard to Do, a romantic musical comedy based on the songs of another Rock n Roll great, Neil Sedaka featuring hits like Oh Carol, Stupid Cupid, Laughter in the Rain and Love Will Keep Us Alive among others.

The cast includes some of Bangalore’s best singers, actors and dancers, and true to its policy, will also showcase some promising new talent. Besides old favourites like Prem Koshy, Arvind Kasturi and Meghna Dhawan, youngsters like Jude Lazaro, and Neville De Nazareth are set to rock Bangalore with superb, live musical backing from the likes of Robin Colaco, Premila Menezes, Pearl Mukadam, Jason Zachariah and Vivek Menzel among others.

The performances will be staged at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bangalore from July 31st to August 3rd, 2009 with follow up shows in Coorg and Mangalore later in August.
